One Folkestone A Community Partnership approach to regeneration

Welcome to the One Folkestone website
work in progress to develop a shared vision for our community

One Folkestone

Take a look at our brief introduction to One Folkestone – to give you some idea of what we’re all about.

Who are we?

One Folkestone is a project designed to be taken into public ownership during the next year.
It’s currently supported by the team at Sunflower House, with advice and input from many partners, including New Folkestone Society, Folkestone and Hythe District Council, Creative Folkestone and many more.

Thank you for your personal interest and for your input via our social media and in conversations, meetings and other ways…..

A work in progress: developing One Folkestone together

Please bear in mind that the One Folkestone website is under continuing development – it’s an ongoing work in progress… last edited in November 2025.

We are adding more information to this new community platform bit by bit: our aim is to bring together the Folkestone community as the voice behind long term regeneration plans.

For this to happen, we are gradually building a programme of discussions and workshops to explore and develop specific project work under six major headings.

We are keen to engage with representatives of the ‘third sector’ – community groups and charities – and with community representatives at all levels of government. In addition, we are gradually meeting a number of key local employers, business people and others who play a key role in our community.

Interesting times!

We are entering a period of change: 2025-2030 will see changes in local government, public services and all of this will directly affect our community and our communities. For many this is a very challenging time personally and in terms of beliefs or values.

There are clear signs of a divide, both globally and in our local streets.
There are those who are angry and disillusioned who will often blame and denigrate others for the problems we all face. There are many who are apathetic and have simply given up being bothered.

In contrast, there is also immense generosity in evidence everywhere in our community.
Many individuals and groups continue to give their time, passion and personal resources for collective benefit and to show real moral purpose.

We don’t all work in the same way, but it’s really not too hard to respect other people for what they do.

Together, we need to rebuild a sense of common purpose – community – and to find a way to challenge and change the growing inequality of those who have health, security of a place to live, lives which are enjoyable on a daily basis and those who do not have these opportunities.

Practical help in hard times

We’ll be adding a directory very soon for some of the amazing partnership groups in Folkestone and the surrounding area and making this easy to search if you need help or know somebody you want to help. Please do let us know if you have suggestions…
Our working title for this project is Joined Up Thinking!

For now… we have assembled a few starting points:

Have a look at some of the first links we’ve put together which we hope will support people in our local community on the Help and Support page – with a special section for families – maybe you could suggest some useful info about the Folkestone community we could usefully add to the site…
